I wondered if solar contractors use the Kill-O-Watt meter before sizing their clients solar systems.
This is my 1st video interview with Scott Franklin President of Lighthouse Solar out of Boulder Colorado.
SolarDave: Do you use any energy audit device like a Kill-A-Watt meter before sizing your solar systems for you clients?
Scott Franklin: Well we don’t typically use a Kill-A-Watt meter because we know the general stats for most appliances - it is kinda like cool, oh ah, like oh wow! But we can tell you what it is without doing the exercise. We know all the major appliances we typically don’t use that. But we definitely talk about where they can save energy.
In fact one of the things we are doing right now is to getting our certification to be HERS raters so we can do home performance ratings and blower doors, etc. Something that we have dabbled in a lot and now we are going to bring that as a service to our company to offer our customers obviously the big advantage is energy it a lot more cost effective to start on the conservation side instead of the production side so we absolutely focus on both sides of that equation.
